The wine market is increasingly competitive. However, French know-how remains in the lead!

The reputation of the domain, its location, its international recognition, the vintage and the know-how of the winemaker are some of the criteria that allow to qualify a wine. Indeed, the winemaker plays a very important role.

The attribution of the AOC appellation, in particular "Grand Cru" or "1er Cru", allows the consumer to know the classification of the best wines.

Internationally, there are also distinctions that allow to establish a classification with, for example, the international competition of the Parker Guide created by the famous Robert Parker called "wine advocate" in the world.

Bordeaux wines remain the most famous in the world. Many of these wines are Grands Crus Classés from the left bank of the Médoc: their reputation crosses borders and embodies French excellence. Among the most recognized wines, we find Château Mouton Rothschild Pauillac, Château Lafite Rothschild Pauillac, Château Margaux, Château Latour Pauillac, Pétrus Pomerol, Château Cheval Blanc Saint-Émilion, or Château Yquem Sauternes.

Also, on the side of the Côte du Rhône, we find wines like Châteauneuf-du-Pape or Château de Beaucastel which, together, make the fame of the South of France by being the first to have obtained the AOC designation.

Further up towards the Lyon region we find the famous Côté Rotie appellation.

Champagnes are wines known and recognized throughout the ages and countries. Dom Pérignon, Louis Roederer and Taittinger are among the most renowned.

Not really: wine actually encompasses two very distinct realities. On the one hand, it is an agricultural and cultural product that is part of everyday life in many wine-producing countries. Global consumption still stands at 208 million hectoliters per year (though down 14% since 2018), driven by the European Union, which accounts for nearly half of this consumption, with France (22 million hectoliters), Italy (20.2 million), and Germany (17.8 million) leading the way, followed by the United States (31.9 million hectoliters, the world’s largest national market).

On the other hand, there is a market for fine wines, which can truly be considered a luxury segment, but which remains a minority: valued at approximately 30 billion euros in 2024, it accounts for only 1.5% of the global volume of wine sold, yet represents about 11% of its total value—a concentration of wealth in a tiny fraction of the bottles produced. Furthermore, this segment remains highly concentrated geographically: Europe produces 75% of these fine wines, and Europe and the Americas combined account for 80% of demand—far from truly universal consumption.

Wine is therefore not a universal luxury in and of itself: it has become one for a tiny fraction of bottles (the Grands Crus of Burgundy or Bordeaux, for example), while the vast majority of production remains an everyday consumer product, deeply rooted in the cultural and gastronomic traditions of its countries of origin. It is this accessible and authentic aspect of wine—far removed from the logic of investment and speculative scarcity—that we seek to highlight through our Provence AOP appellations.

Today, in France, there is a wide selection of so-called “premium” wines to satisfy every palate.
